Thank you for purchasing the CD-ROM Drive FPCCD18 or FPCCD19.
This README file contains the following information when installing the
CD-ROM Drive in Windows NT.

       1. System requirements
       2. Windows NT device driver

1. System requirements

  OS : Windows NT 3.51 or NT 4.0

  This product may not be completely compatible under a Network
  environment (Client-Server, Peer to Peer, and so on.).


2. Windows NT device driver

  The following 3 files that are necessary for installing Windows NT device
  driver for the CD-ROM Drive FPCCD18 or FPCCD19 are contained on the supplied
  Setup disk.

    DISK1
     This file is used while the setup program is running.

    ATAKMINI.SYS
     Windows NT device driver for the KXLC005 PC Card.

    OEMSETUP.INF
     Windows NT device driver for FPCCD18 or FPCCD19 is installed according to the
     information in this file.


3. Software Installation

  (1) Make sure that your computer off.
  (2) Make sure that the Interface Cable is connected to the ATAPI PC Card
      and the CD-ROM Drive.
  (3) Insert the ATAPI PC Card into your computer's PC card slot firmly.
  (4) Turn on your computer, then CD-ROM Drive is automatically turned
      on also. Start Windows NT and log on.

 === In case of Windows NT 3.51 ===
  (5) Double click the icon [Main] (in the Program Manager) and Double click
      the icon [Windows NT Setup].
      The "Windows NT Setup" window appears.
  (6) Click [Options] and click [Add/Remove SCSI Adapters...].
      The "SCSI Adapter Setup" window appears.
  (7) Click [Add...].
      The "Setup Message" window appears.
  (8) Click [OK].
      The "Select SCSI Adapter Option" window appears.
  (9) Choose "Other (Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)" from
      the [Adapter:] list.
      The "Insert Disk" window appears.
 (10) Insert the supplied Setup disk into drive A (or B), Type A:\NT
      and click [OK].
      The "Setup OEM Option" window appears.
 (11) Select PCMCIA ATA Card Host Adapter for NT3.51, 4.0 and click
      [OK].
      The "Select SCSI Adapter Option" window appears.
 (12) Click [Install].
      The "Windows NT Setup" window appears.
 (13) Make sure that Path is A:\NT, and click [Continue].
      Start to copy driver, and then "SCSI Adapter Setup" window appears.
      "PCMCIA ATA Card Host Adapter for NT3.51, 4.0" is added to the
      installed list.
 (14) Click [Close].
      The "Windows NT Setup" window appears.
 (15) Close "Windows NT Setup" window.
      The "Setup Message" window appears.
 (16) Click [OK].
 (17) Remove the Setup disk from the computer, restart Windows NT 3.51,
      then you should be able to use your external CD-ROM.

   You can make sure that the device driver is installed correctly according
   to the following steps.

 (18) Double click the icon [Main] (in the Program Manager) and Double
      click the icon [File Manager].
      If you can find the icon that indicate the CD-ROM drive, the device
      driver for your external CD-ROM is installed correctly.

  === In case of Windows NT 4.0 ===
  (5) Click [Start], point the [Settings], and click the [Control Panel].
  (6) Double click the icon [SCSI Adapters].
      The "SCSI Adapters" window appears.
  (7) Click [Drivers] tab.
  (8) Click [Add..].
      The "Install Driver" window appears.
  (9) Click [Have Disk...].
      The "Install Form Disk" window appears.
 (10) Insert the supplied Setup disk into drive A (or B), Type A:\NT
      and click [OK].
      The "Install Driver" window appears.
 (11) Select PCMCIA ATA Card Host Adapter for NT3.51, 4.0 and click
      [OK].
      The "Windows NT Setup" window appears.
 (12) Type A:\NT and click [Continue].
      System starts to copy the driver, and then "System Settings Change"
      window appears.
 (13) Remove the Setup disk from the computer, and then click [Yes].
 (14) Restart Windows NT 4.0, then you should be able to use your external CD-ROM.

   You can make sure that device driver is installed correctly according to
   the following step.

 (15) Double click [My Computer].
      If you find an icon that indicates a CD-ROM drive, driver installation
      is successful.


4. Supplement

4-1. Multimedia Application

4-1-1 Playing an Audio CD on Windows NT 3.51 Media Player

      If you wish to play an Audio CD on the Media Player through
      Windows NT 3.51, you must install the "(MCI) CD Audio"
      driver.

      == HOW TO ADD CD AUDIO DRIVER ==
      (1) Make sure that your computer recognized the player.
          (Device should appear in the File Manager.)
      (2) Set an Audio CD in player.
      (3) Double click the icon [Main]. (in the Program Manager)
      (4) Double click the icon [Control Panel].
      (5) Double click the icon [Drivers].
          If you find the "(MCI) CD Audio" in the [Installed Drivers] list,
          it has already been installed.  Please end this procedure.
      (6) Click [Add...] button.
      (7) Click the "(MCI) CD Audio".
      (8) Follow the instructions on your screen.

      == HOW TO PLAY ==
      (1) Double click the icon [Accessories]. (in the Program Manager)
      (2) Double click the icon [Media Player].
      (3) Click [Device].
      (4) Click "CD Audio".
      (5) To play it, operate the keys in the window.

4-1-2 Playing an Audio CD on Windows NT 4.0
       To operate an Audio CD on Windows NT, the multimedia application(CD
       Player, Media Player) should be installed to Windows NT.

       == HOW TO INSTALL ==
       (1) Click [Start], point to [Settings].
       (2) Click the [Control Panel].
       (3) Double click [Add/Remove Programs].
       (4) Click [Windows NT Setup] tab.
       (5) Click [Multimedia] in Components, then click [Details].
       (6) Click the check box on [CD Player] and [Media Player], click OK.
       (7) Click OK.

       == HOW TO PLAY WITH MEDIA PLAYER ==
       (1) Click [Start], point [Programs].
       (2) Point [Accessories], then point [Multimedia].
       (3) Click [Media Player].
       (4) Click [Device], select [CD Audio] and operate the keys on screen.

       == HOW TO PLAY ON CD PLAYER ==
       If you set Auto insert notification function to CD-ROM Drive,
       CD Player automatically start after setting an Audio CD.
       But, if you turn on your computer with an Audio CD on CD-ROM Drive,
       CD Player does not start automatically, in this case, you must set
       again an Audio CD, or start the CD Player according to the following
       steps.

       (1) Click [Start], point [Programs].
       (2) Point [Accessories], then point [Multimedia].
       (3) Click [CD Player] and operate the keys on screen.


4-2. How to REMOVE the Windows NT driver for FPCCD18 or FPCCD19

      Make sure that the Interface Cable is connected to the ATAPI PC Card
      and the CD-ROM Drive. And connect the supplied AC adaptor to CD-ROM
      Drive and AC outlet.

      (1) Insert the ATAPI PC Card into your computer's PC card slot firmly.
      (2) Turn on your computer, then CD-ROM Drive is automatically turned
          on also. Start Windows NT and log on.

      === In case of Windows NT 3.51 ===
      (3) Double click the icon [Main] (in the Program Manager) and Double
          click the icon [Windows NT Setup].
          The "Windows NT Setup" window appears.
      (4) Click [Options] and click [Add/Remove SCSI Adapters...].
          The "SCSI Adapter Setup" window appears.
      (5) Choose "PCMCIA ATA Card Host Adapter for NT3.51, 4.0" in
          the installed list, Click [Remove].
          The "Setup Message" window appears.
      (6) Click [OK].
          The "Setup Message" window appears.
      (7) Click [OK].
          "SCSI Adapter Setup" window appears.
      (8) Click [Close].
          "Windows NT Setup" window appears.
      (9) Close "Windows NT Setup" window.
          "Setup Message" window appears.
     (10) Click [OK].
     (11) Restart Windows NT 3.51, to complete the deletion of the driver.

      === In case of Windows NT 4.0 ===
      (3) Click [Start], point to [Settings], and click the
          [Control Panel].
      (4) Double click the icon [SCSI Adapters].
          The "SCSI Adapters" window appears.
      (5) Click [Drivers] tab.
      (6) Choose "PCMCIA ATA Card Host Adapter for NT3.51, 4.0" in
          the installed list, Click [Remove].
          The "Remove Driver" window appears.
      (7) Click [Yes].
          The "SCSI Adapters" window appears.
      (8) Click [OK].
      (9) Restart Windows NT 4.0, to complete to deletion of the driver.


4-3. "Plug & Play" is not supported by Windows NT

      "Plug & Play" is not supported by Windows NT, therefore, you should
      not remove or insert the ATAPI PC Card while Windows NT is running.
      Whenever you operate FPCCD18 or FPCCD19 under Windows NT, please follow the
      steps below for removal and insertion.

      Make sure that the Interface Cable is connected to the ATAPI PC Card
      and to the player.

      (1) Insert the ATAPI PC Card into your computer's PC card slot firmly.
      (2) Turn on your computer, then CD-ROM Drive is automatically turned
          on also. Start Windows NT and log on.
      (3) Do not remove the ATAPI PC Card while Windows NT is running.
      (4) Shutdown Windows NT, turn off your computer, and then remove the
          ATAPI PC Card.

      If you don't insert the ATAPI PC Card for FPCCD18 or FPCCD19 during the
      starting Windows NT, an ERROR message window appears because Windows NT
      is trying to load the driver for your external CD-ROM. Therefore after you
      installed the device driver for FPCCD18 or FPCCD19, insert the ATAPI PC Card
      whenever you start Windows NT.


4-4. Installing Windows NT from DOS by using FPCCD18

      (1) Boot your computer DOS. Install the device driver for the
          CD-ROM Drive on DOS.
      (2) Connect FPCCD18 or FPCCD19 to your computer, and reboot your computer
          to DOS.
      (3) Place the "Windows NT CD-ROM" onto the CD-ROM Drive.
      (4) Change directory to \I386 on Windows NT CD-ROM.
      (5) Type WINNT /B and hit Enter key.
      (6) Follow the instructions on your screen.

      While Windows NT Setup program is running, the display message
      will appear to add the mass storage device (SCSI adapters, CD-ROM
      devices, and so on).
      But you can not set up FPCCD18 in this procedure.
      After you finished Windows NT Setup program, please follow steps
      "3. Software Installation".
